LADOT’s Parking Meter Study in West Adams
The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) is conducting a parking meter study to determine whether West Adams should be added to the parking meter code. This study is a critical first step for installing parking meters. Simply being included in the code means we’ll have the option to make that decision in the future.
A comprehensive parking study could help us understand how parking functions in West Adams and whether metered parking could improve turnover, accessibility, and economic activity in the district. Increased turnover could benefit local businesses by ensuring that more visitors can find parking, rather than spaces being occupied by long-term parkers. This study is about investment and choice.
Where We Are in the Study
LADOT is currently in the planning phase and expects to complete the study by March 2025. Once the study is finished, LADOT will present its findings to the West Adams BID and Council District 10.
If the findings show that parking meters would benefit the district (e.g., by increasing parking turnover), LADOT will move forward with recommendations to install them. This process would involve obtaining a letter of support from CD 10, presenting the proposal to the Board of Transportation Commissioners, and eventually seeking approval from the City Council and the Mayor.
This process will take time, and public engagement will be part of it. But regardless of the outcome, the study itself is a win for West Adams. It represents a step toward correcting past disinvestment and giving our community access to the same tools other business districts have to manage parking effectively.
We’ll continue to keep you updated on the study’s progress. If you have questions or want to get involved, stay tuned for upcoming BID meetings where we’ll discuss the next steps.
